What is the hardened steel ?
Hardened steel is a type of carbon steel used for making tools and heavy machine parts. This material consists of steel that has been specially treated to improve its hardness and strength. Compared to standard steel, the hardened type offers greater wear resistance and durability, making it well-suited to heavy-duty applications.
What is the best way to grinding Hardened steel？
In the traditional grinding process, the conventional processing of hardened steel is often roughing and semi-finishing because of its high hardness and the need for quenching (tempering), and finishing using grinding, which often has high production costs and low processing efficiency.
Currently, available for processing hardened steel are CBN internal grinding wheels, which are selected according to the processing conditions and processing scenarios.
Advantages of CBN internal grinding wheel for processing hardened steel:

High hardness, high temperature red hardness, specifically for high hardness difficult to machine materials. After quenching, the hardness of quenched steel can reach more than HRC55, which is difficult to be processed by ordinary abrasives. CBN single crystal microhardness is HV8000~9000, which is the second highest hardness material known, so the CBN grinding wheel made can easily grind high hardness workpieces around HRC55~62, which is the preferred abrasive material for processing quenched steel.

High temperature resistance and good thermal conductivity. When processing quenched steel, due to the high cutting force and high cutting temperature of the unit, the ordinary grinding wheel wears severely, but the heat resistance of CBN internal grinding wheel can reach 1400~1500℃, even at 1200~1300℃, it can maintain excellent processing effect, and there is no wear caused by high temperature.

Strong wear resistance and good impact toughness. CBN internal grinding wheels have good wear resistance and impact toughness, even in the high-speed grinding condition, there will be no chipping, which meets the intermittent cutting needs of quenched steel workpieces.

High processing accuracy. Conventional grinding tools are difficult to achieve the finishing of quenched steel, so they are often dominated by CBN grinding tools.CBN internal grinding has a low coefficient of friction, which meets the processing accuracy requirements of quenched steel and greatly improves the processing efficiency of quenched steel.
